A.P.P.L.E. is based upon the belief that All Parents Provide Learning Everyday. A.P.P.L.E. is a Parent Education parogram funded by the Illinois State Board of Education to help families of pre-school children build upon strengths and overcome barriers so their children will succeed in school and in life.
Program Goals:
• To help parents learn effective parenting strategies.
• To build upon the child's strengths using developmentally appropriate techniques.
• To link families with their school.
• To help families access other resources that may be needed.
Services are offered to families who:
• Live in Jasper County, Illinois.
• Are expecting a child or have a pre-school child, age five or under.
• Are experiencing circumstances which may affect their child's success in school such as low income, single parent household, young parents,etc.
Services Include:
• Help with parenting issues
• Developmental screening
• Developmental instruction
• Play groups
• Home-visits
• Monthly newsletter
• Individual family support planning and implementation
• Parent meetings
• Referrals to other agencies for specialized services.
• Help with the transition into the school system.
There are two ABC/APPLE Play Groups held each Wednesday in Newton and Olney. The Newton Play Group is held from 10:00 to 11:00 am at the Body Styles Fitness Center or, weather permitting, Newton City Park. The Olney Play Group is held from 9:30 to 10:30 am at 304 East Main Street. Enter through the back door or for accessible entry use the entrance on York Street. These two Play Groups are for all families in Richland, Lawrence, Crawford and Jasper Counties in Illinois with a child 0-5 years old. The Play Groups provide toys, songs, games, finger plays, snacks, friendship and parent interaction. Call 1-877-395-4222 for more information.
