Barb joined the staff of ARC Community Support Systems in July 1997. In her position as Developmental Training Coordinator, Barb is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Developmental Training Center which provides personal, social, and vocational development activities and related support services to individuals with developmental disabilities and/or physical disabilities in order to increase and/or maintain their overall level of functioning. Opportunities for community integration and socialization are provided. The desired outcome for the individuals served is that they are able to function as self-sufficiently and as productively as possible - either within the Developmental Training Program or through other services offered by the agency.
As work is important to may of the consumers we serve, a variety of jobs are contracted with local businesses to provide vocational skills training and an opportunity for consumers to earn a paycheck for the work they complete. The consumers at ARC-CSS are capable of doing many different types of work and have both excellent quality and efficiency ratings for the jobs they have completed. We are able to meet the production needs of many area businesses. Prior to her employment with ARC, Barb worked at a local Community Mental Health Center where she held positions that included both direct care services and managerial responsibilities.
Barb has over 20 years of experience in providing mental health services to persons in Effingham County. She is a strong advocate in promoting the integration of persons with disabilities into community settings.
